Once again the music world has lost another great. Radio personality , music producer and TV host legend Bob Mabena has passed away at the age of 51 . He had a very successful radio career spanning over 31 years . He became a household name with his radio presenting on Radio Bop and there after on TV’s music video show ‘Studio Mix’ with whom he hosted with Melanie Bala .
Just the other day I was reminiscent of Bob and Melanie , Friday nights at 9pm on local television hosting the ‘Studio Mix’ show. It was an 1 hour show , playing music videos in the genres of RnB , Rap , Hip Hop and Kwaito . This was before MTV came to South Africa and was THE show of its time. They would play the best jams and was a feat for the eyes and ears. This show played a huge impact on my life . I was educated , by Bob , on all these genres of which I fell in love with . Bob Mabena was a fantastic host and he educated me with his awesome selection of music and his personality . He gave me some of the best memories of childhood which Ill never forget and for that I grateful .
My condolences go out to his friends and family .
