The music world is once again in mourning today , in finding out that Academy Award winning composer Ennio Morricone has passed away at the age of 91.
Ennio Morricone won his first Academy award for Best Original Score for Quinton Tarrintin’s ‘The Hateful Eight’ . , but has been nominated numerous times , most noticeably for ‘Malena’ , ‘The Untouchables’ , ‘The Mission’ and ‘Bugsy’. Personally ‘Malena’ is one of my all time favorite movies and he did such a wonderful job on that film’s score .
You might not know his name but you have definitely heard his film scores . He has been scoring movies for the better part of 60 years , and arguably his most popular film score was that of ‘The good , the bad and the ugly’ .
Its a sad irony for me as last week I was watching ‘The Hateful eight’ and I remember he had won an oscar for this film’ score. And I was thinking to myself ‘DAMN, this soundtrack/score is amazing’ . It’s as if the film’s score was a character of its own , and in no way could this film had been so fantastic without the help Ennio Morricone .
RIP and may your legacy live on through your music
