The music world has been in shock today having learnt about the death of vocal front man for the electronic music group , The Prodigy , Keith Flint .

It has been reported that the singer has been found dead at the age of 49 in his home in Essex, UK. It has been confirmed by Liam Howlett , the bands creator , that Keith’s death was that by suicide. Liam wrote in an instagram post ‘The news is true, I can’t believe I’m saying this but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend ‘ .

The bands official statement regarding his death was done via twitter , whereby they wrote ‘It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint. A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time ‘

Keith’s vocals are found on some of The Prodigy’s biggest tracks , namely ‘Firestarter’ & ‘ Breath’ .

When The Prodigy burst onto the scene in the mid 90’s I immediately became a huge fan of theirs. But truthfully it wasn’t until I saw the movie ‘Hackers’ , and being introduced to the soundtrack for that movie ,that I was truly influenced by their music . Most notably from the soundtrack were their tracks ‘Voodoo People’ & ‘One love’ . These two tracks as well as many other of The Prodigy tracks are always found on my phone . I love their music and their impact on the dance music world & dance music culture have helped shape what dance music has become today.

‘Firestarter’ , among many other of The Prodigy’s tracks, has become synonymous with movies and commercials. Just about every one of The Prodigy’s tracks will continually be played throughout time and are cemented as being dance music classics.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Keith’s friends and family. Through his music we will always remember him .
